10 Chung Hwa Students and 3 BOD Join 10th Summer Camp in Guizhou, China

The 10th ASEAN- China Summer Camp was held from 26th July to 3rd August in Guizhou Nationalities University, China. Led by 3 board members, 10 high flyers of Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB were invited to participate in the aforementioned function because of their excellent results in HSK Examination. Organised by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and co-hosted by Guizhou Nationalities University, China, the camp is a prodigious event aimed to promote a love for Chinese language.

Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency, assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the language. Chung Hwa students who have achieved outstanding results are well-rewarded as all the expanses, inclusive of return airfare, accommodation, food and miscellaneous fees are all sponsored by the organizing committee.

Since 2008, the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People’s Republic of China has joined forces with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and People’s Government of Guizhou Province in its attempt to organize the ASEAN-China Education Exchange Week. Aimed to boost mutual understanding and solidify friendship, the Exchange Week was successfully held for 9 consecutive times, attracting 11834 participants and 2717 educational institutions all around the globe while 1088 Memorandums of Understanding and Cooperation were signed.

Themed, “ Hand In Hand We Thrive Under The One Belt One Road Initiative”, the 10th ASEAN-China Exchange Week was hoped to promote more educational exchange and cultivate well-rounded individuals who will make profound contributions to the societies.

It is estimated that 2000 participants from China, ASEAN countries and officials, representatives from Switzerland Russia will mark the opening ceremony of the exchange week.

Different activities will be held, namely the ASEAN-China Principal’s Cooperation, ASEAN-China Teenagers’ Cooperation, ASEAN-China Cultural Exchange, the 3rd ASEAN-China Education Fair and China-ASEAN Educational and Talent Exchange Seminar.

A total of 49 events will be held in conjunction with the Exchange Week. 25 universities and 5 departments from the country and International Associations will work together to conduct different kinds of activities, notably workshops, seminars, competitions, summer camp, training courses and exhibitions.

5 major activities and 23 supplementary activities will be conducted in conjunction with the opening ceremony. Some of the activities are also open to public in the hope of providing the public with information on education, technology and study abroad programme. Apart from that, 21 activities were already held in Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Beijing.

The principal of Chung Hwa Middle School, Mdm. Kho Guik Lan wished all the participants a safe journey. “I hope that all participants will show exemplary behavior when they attend any activities. Most importantly, I hope that they will learn a lot of knowledge about Chinese culture, wushu, cultural dances and songs. Guizhou is a state filled with natural wonders and I hope that the students will immerse themselves in the rich heritage of Guizhou and reflect what they have learned,” she expounded.

Situated in southwest China and attributed to subtropical plateau zone, Guizhou is known as “Qian” for short. Mountains and hills take up over 97% area of Guizhou Province where visitors could see the most typical Kaste area in the world. With unique surroundings, varied topography, pleasant weather and a temperature of 15 °c on an average without sever cold in winter and sweltering hot in summer, Guiyang is suitable for travelers to visit all around the year.

This remote and exotic region is the homeland to Dong, Miao, Shui and other minorities. With its unsophisticated local customs, unique national culture and fantastic habits with a long history and numerous historic heritages and relics of many Chinese minorities, Guizhou is an ideal destination for ethnic lovers and adventure fans.
